Going Nuclear: Dems to go it alone on health care.

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair…

Obama and the Democrats are going to fashion the bill to their liking and the then go against the will of the people and pass the bill anyway they can.

Democrats have been wetting the bed for decades trying to bring socialized healthcare to the United States. Obama and the Democrats know that after the current uproar, the chances of ever socializing healthcare will forever be zero. This is their best, last and only chance to do it. Therefore they will risk everything.

It is highly unlikely they will get all 60 senators on board to stop a filibuster; therefore, they will go nuclear and use the reconciliation process.

Should the Democrats so willfully go against the clear objections of the majority of the people, we should consider our own nuclear option and repeal the 16th Amendment! Without the ability to tax income, estates or gifts, the Fed would never be able to fund Obamacare, Cap and Trade, bailouts, welfare programs or stimulus plans. Much of what Washington does now would fall to the states and at that level; we the people have far greater control.

God help them if they do this. It's gonna get nasty, and I don't think it will just be a few people complaining.

It may perhaps be an empty threat, though I don't know. Coming this early in Obama's presidency if they go through with it they may be betting on a economic revival and then painting any Republican reaction as obstructionist.

There's a reason Obama has handed off writing all of these bills instead of actively participating in their creation, and we're seeing why even as his poll numbers slip (granted, not as dramatically as Congress' but slipping nonetheless): They are unconstitutional and he knows it; when the population wakes up and rises against the polity in the next election, he needs to come out "unsullied." A form of plausible deniability, if you will.

Personally, I hope they go ahead with it. They've been poking the sleeping bear for months with a big pointy stick, and it's about to wake up and maul them in the next election. History is NOT on the Democrats' side when it comes to Presidential elections, and this "most honest and transparent Congress EVAH" will hopefully be the vehicle for ensuring Obama is as much a one-termer as Carter (and several of his other "D" predecessors, HOOT-HOOT).

Indeed, the 16th need to be repealed, but so does the 17th. Thanks to that destructive little bastardization of the intent of the Founding Fathers, our Senate is no longer beholden to State and individual rights - and the means by which they have been able to blatantly IGNORE Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution along with the 9th and 10th amendments. We were never meant to have TWO "houses of representatives," which is exactly what we have under the current system.

With luck, the stupidity expressed by virtually the entire congressional body (both chambers and both parties, from my perspective) the past (at least) decade will lead to the abolition of ALL parties and finally bring some integrity to the cesspool of Washington, DC.

I think they are going to go for it. It has been their wet dream for too long. They simply cannot pass up the opportunity. It will cost them dearly, but they will do it any way.

I think Obama and the Democrats realize that they are now in a damn if they do, damn if they don't situation. Pass the bill against the will of the people and they will be kick out of office in crazy numbers. Fail to pass the bill and their strongest supporters will turn on them.

Excellent points!

1. Yes, I do believe there is a reason why Obama has not bother to craft any of this legislation himself. I thought it was stupidity, but plausible deniability could be his M.O. as well.

2. Democrats are on the fast track to being cleaned out in 2010 and 2012 unless they find a way to decrease the deficit and create real jobs.

3. Regarding Congress's disregards for the Constitution, We The People are to blame for that. It is our job to make sure they follow it and for too many years too many of us have been asleep. But now that we have been poked with the pointy stick, things can be different.
